Title: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Post by: Grindspine on December 29, 2022, 07:01:37 PM
Why do all of the weapons break on EVERY enemy encounter?

I remember that games like Diablo II had a durability stat on weapons. Sure, they'd break if you were really negligent about repairs when you visit a town. With Breath of the Wild, I go through multiple melee weapons with every moblin group I encounter. Also, bows shattering while just drawing the string even though arrow are depleted is just.. silly.

Anyone else completely dumbfounded by the game design on this one?

I hated it at first. I made my peace with it after some playing but hated it again when I got into fighting the bigger monsters and guardians.

I have this on the Wii U. I have started it two times. The last time I picked it up I got further than the first time, then slaughtered. I want to get into this game. I just like the way it is exploratory and open in nature, at the same time there are moments in a game that I would like it to hold my hand and lead me through. I am thinking very seriously about getting this on the Switch. I think I would spend more time with it in a handheld console. Might find it more enjoyable? Struggling with this decision. The game still is expensive even used.

I have been really disappointed with Breath of the Wild. It was touted as being a cross between a Legend of Zelda game and having the open world of Skyrim. To some extent, I can see where it has elements of both.

I really found the combat unenjoyable enough to not want to continue with the game though.

I did start on Zelda: Link's Awakening again on the Switch. I think that I got about five hours in on that game tonight. It has the adventure style where you have to wonder a bit before you find the item or path that will carry you to the next phase of the game. I miss adventure games like Metroid 3, Castlevania: SotN, and Zelda III: A Link to the Past where adventure always had a sense of searching and discovery.

@retro junkie - did you end up getting it on the switch?

@Grindspine @targetrasp I get what both of you are saying.  I wanted to like it as well but had a hard time getting into it.  I really like what I see, but have issues with some of the mechanics and gameplay.

The game is beautiful.  I too like the open world concept.  More time is necessary to put this game through its paces... and get better hands on with it.  I just haven't played it that much.

@BLUEVOODU i have had other financial priorities. And being that it is a difficult game for me to get into it just doesn't take center stage when I have the funds. Other things suddenly draw my interest. But it is on the agenda, some day............

yeah... I hear you. I've made a few of those decisions lately as well.  Though... then I caved on a couple other Shmups that were on sale... lol  ;D
