Samurai-Ghost: How a pity you are, yak yak yak.
My thoughts have always been, "Is there some kind of power up system that I am missing here?" It doesn't seem like those sphere power up things do anything for me. They just don't come around often enough either. And I still feel that way. Game is still loads of fun though. There is some very good music in some levels, odd, but good. The "Laughing Place" is really weird! There is a snow level that has flying eyeballs coming from a flower. And the butterfly that turns into a lady is my favorite boss character in this game. It took me two days to defeat her according to the rising and setting of the sun, moon in the game. Love the giant worm in that one level. And those blasted monkeys and Samurai!!!!! It took me several days to reach that door!!! Some serious gaming has went into this Hucard! Be Caution! Hate the spiked balls! This game gets really weird in some places. But I love it! The final boss, just how many times can he change?!! Still not sure. I  have never had what it takes to defeat this thing. How a pity you are, yak yak yak. This is one great game!!

Too bad it received such bad reviews back in the Turbo Grafx 16 era. I purchased it anyway and I have always been glad that I did. At first I was almost not receptive to the animation of the character, very stiff. The only seemingly joints he has is shoulders and hip. And I almost did not venture into playing the game, but was going to toss it aside. That would have been a huge mistake. It has been one of those favorite games on the system for me. Lot of parallax scrolling with some platforming. A forward scrolling hack and slash classic for the TG 16.

@retro junkie How is the sound in this game?

If you are asking about the music score, oriental type feel. Voice sound bites are raspy, grainy.

Yes - to both.   Many of the Turbo Grafx games were like that.  Raiden on the Turbo Grafx was one of my favorite versions.  Might do a topic on that at some point... but it too had sound that was a little weaker than it should've been.  Music, for the most part, is pretty good on the Turbo Grafx.

I agree. Even though I will play Raiden on any system, the TG16 is the best version of that era. The best in the gameplay. Audio on the system itself was best on the Duo with CD games.
