Title: Turbo Grafx-16 Mini Pre-Order
Post by: BLUEVOODU on July 14, 2019, 10:01:16 PM
I will use this topic for the pre-order.  You can also use the Prime Day link in General in the Prime Day topic.

As of right now, I don't see the Pre-Order Link / product page for the Turbo Grafx-16 Mini.  There are Hori Controllers and other products out there.

Turbo Grafx-16 Mini Pre-Order items:

Release Date: March 19, 2020

I'm definitely pre-ordering tomorrow... I've dug many games on the Turbo Grafx and Duo.  It would be cool if they offered a Duo version in the future.

@retro junkie What in the world...  I tell you.   No love for the US market yet.

Hopefully this is coming soon.   I'm with @targetrasp on this one... I cannot wait for Blazing Lasers.   My Turbo Express died awhile back... I just haven't fixed it yet.  There are how to articles and I do stuff with electronics, but I would hate to screw it up 100%.  Another look into this needs to be done.

@MegaDrive20XX - Not sure you will see this... but are you looking forward to this as well?

@MegaDrive20XX WWOOOTT  Welcome back Mega!  :)) Glad to have you back on board!  I hear you... we need to catch up.  It's been awhile.

@retro junkie - It's live now!  After @targetrasp said he purchased, I checked the link and it's live.

I was checking out the Crash N' Sane Trilogy and Horizon.  Kingdom Hearts 3 looks like a great deal...  very good.  Dangit.. I might have to pick that up as well for $20.

Double post.... I find it interesting they did not list the games yet on the Amazon Page.   I wonder why details are lacking.

Okay I'm on board. Just made my preorder. The first mini for me and it took the Turbografx 16 to do it!

edit: I hope someone comes up with some sort of way to add my other games onto the console. We need a hack!!

@retro junkie man... I'm pumped for this.  I doubt you will be disappointed.  I wish there was a way to play old hu-cards on the system as well. That would be awesome.

And I agree with you. There should be a way to buy new packs of games or something to add to the console.

@CreepinDeth here is the pre-order topic!

This is good news.

This game had a great soundtrack, especially during the intro to the game. From what I remember the game was pretty tough. It wasn't usually the bullets or lasers that got you, it was trying to squeeze between enemies or parts of the stage. The boss fight always had a trick but were pretty tricky too. Some of the bosses had lasers that would curve or do a hard 90 right at you, others made you squeeze in spots about the size of your ship to shoot their weakness.

That'd be a great game to include

@retro junkie and @targetrasp  - Gate of Thunder.... maybe they'll make a Duo Mini next?   That was a great game.  Also Lords of Thunder.

yeah... Splatterhouse was on the TG16 as well.  I don't know if it was as good as the FM Towns Marty version or not.   Unfortunately, my FM Towns Marty experience was a bit limited.

amazon looks to have moved their release date on the tg 16 to December 31st 2020... Hopefully this is a screw up BUT I'm sure its getting delayed
Title: Re: Turbo Grafx-16 Mini Pre-Order

@retro junkie @targetrasp I hope this is still happening as well.   For those that haven't pre-ordered...  you can still use the links on the beginning of this thread.

I REALLY hope that December 2020 date is NOT the real deal.    I haven't heard that it's being delayed yet.    Any other news you have found?

That is very disappointing if that is a delayed date. I do not understand why. They have had plenty of time. I want mine now.  ;)
Title: Re: Turbo Grafx-16 Mini Pre-Order
Post by: BLUEVOODU on March 14, 2020, 10:36:43 PM
lol... but DADDY... I WANT THE TG16 MINI NOW!  ;D

I do too... I can't wait to see how it plays on the more modern TV's with the proper connections.   It's been awhile since I've really played many Turbo Grafx games.  I think the last time MAY have been when I bought some of the games on Virtual Console on the Wii.

Speaking of which... my Turbo Express still has bit the dust.  I need to figure out how to get it fixed or fix it.
Title: Re: Turbo Grafx-16 Mini Pre-Order
Post by: retro junkie on March 15, 2020, 09:36:22 AM
I have both the PC Engine and the Turbo Grafx 16 consoles. Plus the Turbo Duo and Turbo Express. My Turbo Express needs to be repaired as it has fallen to the capacitor issue. I have a ton of games, many from the Turbo glory days. Hooking it up to the HD TV experience has mixed results. I have a cheap convertor that makes you grit your teeth, or I can directly use the RCA connection, jagged pixel nation. But it works to get that TG 16 fix.

Local restaurants are closed except for drive through, or take out. Small "mom & pop" shops are ordered close down, beauty shops, etc. Anything that is non essential. Even factories are starting to close. Grocery stores are restocking and there is no shortages, it is just that people are purchasing everything cleaning off the shelves. People are freaking out, scared.

If I end up at home, I will take care of some undone chores around here.

I'm a little excited about the possibility of having to shut off for a few weeks... Don't get me wrong I hope it doesn't happen but if it does I would use the time to seriously decompress.

The adult in me hates that I'll have to lay everyone off at work before the owner lays me off, my stock portfolio is a train wreck, my 401k a fraction of what it was in January, and the money under my mattress is making more in interest than the money in my money market... (j/k I don't have money under my mattress) but the kid in me realizes that there's enough boos in the liquor cabinet to get the entire neighborhood drunk, enough beer in the pantry to do it again the next day, and more video games than I'll ever get to play in my lifetime. It would be the ultimate staycation until the food and TP runs out... then it'd be Lord of the Flies.

We were told today that we are not shutting down. And if all of our customers shut down then we will catch up on back orders. That is so when everyone returns to work we will have things caught up. I work for a Japanese company. They will have to be made to close.

Today it was announced that we have our first case of the virus in our area with a potential of more. I am a high risk person and all of those who work under me except for one are high risk. I am 65 years old and have hypertension, among other things. People here locally, I don't think, are taking this situation seriously. Yes there is the panic, but I work around people where it has not sunk in. I don't think enough people get the idea that life will, and needs to, change.

No need to answer, it's rhetorical and slightly sarcastic.

A hand picked TG 16 library of 40-50 would still have 20ish games I'd only spin up once or twice

The snes mini is still my favorite but the tg 16 is a solid tie with the genesis one.

I tried out a bunch of the games right off the bat. The emulation works great. I've played an hour of Soldier Blade, an hour of Alien Crush, and an hour of Millitary Madness. Millitary Madness didn't age as good as it could have. I think Advance Wars took it down about 12 notches. Still fun, still challenging, just aged. Soldier Blade is just as awesome as i rememeber, but alien crush! I hadn't played pinball in a long time and it scratched an itch. I wasn't expecting much for it but its been my favorite so far.

I got mine about 2 weeks ago. It's sitting pretty with all of the other minis. I did annoy me that Amazon didn't even bother to package it in a box. They just slapped the shipping label on the box itself and shipped it like that. Oh well, fortunately it was destroyed.

@BLUEVOODU Honestly this is well done. Love it. I am impressed with the visuals. Jaggies are noticeable but that is the nature of the beast.
I had no intention of saving my original TG16 box. Just so happens that it is a storage box for photos and negatives.
I don't know if it is just me but I had a difficult time plugging the power cord into the system. Fat fingers I guess. I know the whole nostalgic thing but that could have been designed a bit better than what we got.
First game I played was Lords of Thunder. I found no slow down, good experience. Nothing like many interviews that I have watched.
One of the warnings caught my eye. "Do not wrap the controller cable around your neck to avoid risk of suffocation."

I really didn't mind the back piece, easily removed, if you ever owned one. It was the little cramped area you had to negotiate in order just to plug in. That is unacceptable.
