Title: Binge-Watching Shows - 2022 edition
Post by: BLUEVOODU on February 27, 2022, 11:35:00 AM
Last time we did this was back in 2020 -- BINGE-WATCHING SHOWS DURING THE CORONA-POCALYPE (https://www.chickendinnergaming.com/forum/index.php?topic=732).  Time to roll up to the 2022 Show binging.

What are you currently binging?  what have you missed that you want to binge?  What do you want to binge again?  Add some details!

Post it up!

To kick this off... we have been trying to catch up on Space Force (https://www.chickendinnergaming.com/forum/index.php?topic=958.0).  It's not the greatest... but there are definitely some funny parts.  We are also working through Agents of Shield (https://www.chickendinnergaming.com/forum/index.php?topic=954.0).  Agents of Shield is pretty well done.  I cannot believe I missed it.

I linked a couple other topics to the shows I mentioned.  Join in those conversations as well!

What are your thoughts @Mai Valentine @SpartanEvolved @mastermario  @JR_McG @targetrasp @trkorecky @medataoh @MegaDrive20XX @Snatcher_L ?  We haven't heard from you in while.

Post it up!

Looks like I am returning to NCIS. I started this past weekend. I only watch up to 13 seasons. The team broke up after that. The main karisma of actors, one by one, left the show at this point. There was that team of people that I enjoyed watching and then poof, gone. Just did not feel right, Gibbs just did not carry it for me. He needed those other actors to play off of. Tony added lot to the show.

I am also watching Space 1999. It really reflects the 70's type corny cinema made for TV type stuff. Wished they had a bigger budget thoughts go through your mind while watching.

I blazed through Yellowstone and immediately started (and just finished) 1883. Reacher with Thad from Blue Mountain State (best raunchy comedy since Van Wilder) was pretty good too. For a blast from the past I've started watching Clone High on Paramount + and Exo Squad on peacock. I'm slowly going through Star Trek Discovery in anticipation of Picard. Theres tons of others that have piqued my attention but work has been brutal. I've had enough time to ignore my kids, eat and sleep, so most of what I watch happens between that time i hit the bed and fall asleep.

We just finished Stranger things (to date).  It's a bit dark...  but interesting.

Need to switch back to Agents of Shield and finish those... as well as Clone Wars series.

With all the new shows from Obi-wan, Ms. Marvel, and Stranger Things... time has been taken up for other binge watching.   However, now going back to  Agents of Shield Season 2 (I was wrong.. I didn't finish all season 1) AND Clone Wars.  I think on Season 2 now.

I donno if it needs its own thread, but the Netflix Resident Evil series is great so far. I binged seven episodes last night!

I binged the first 3 seasons of The Expanse. I had no idea about this show and I was surprised that a show of this quality was originally on Sci-Fi. I'm also not a huge space science fiction fan nor do I binge shows but this one caught me.

Wife started watching with me so we now watch it over dinner.  :)

I don't see why it can't have it's own thread.

Renee found some cutesy anime shows that were great to binge. Romantic Killer is streaming on Netflix. It is a cute short story about how a girl who is obsessed with video games, chocolate, and her cat, gets dragged into a real life dating sim game. Cutesy, but pretty good overall and short enough to binge in a night.

A couple of Netflix shows that I sort of binge watched was Kim's Convenience and Working Moms. Both are pretty funny. I've finished Kim's Convenience but still going through Working Moms.

Oh, another one is I Think You Should Leave. This show is not for everyone though. I found the randomness very funny. It's definitely one of those WTF just happened? shows. Each episode is only 15 minutes.

I Think it's about time to get back to Agents of Shield... we are still on season 2.

Anyone else catching any shows?

@BLUEVOODU i have a recumbent stationary exercise bike sitting in front of my TV. I exercise every afternoon. That is the time I usually watch something. After finishing 13 seasons of NCIS I have been trying to find something to take its place. I have been bouncing all over the place. I may try  Agents of Shield. I have never watched it. My Daughter was so into it when it first aired. She never would reveal any details in case I ever watched.

Just finished watching Mrs. Davis. The trailers were intriguing but after reading on other forums how good it was, decided to give it a watch. This show is not what I expected and it's currently my favorite new show of 2023.

Also finished Ted Lasso and although it's generally a good show with lots of positivity, it got a bit disjointed in the last season. Seemed to be all over the place and lots of story happened outside of the camera. There were many times where all of a sudden characters would have a change of heart but you never see why exactly. It's sad because it started out so great.

@BLUEVOODU Season 2 is pretty strong. Season 3 can be a bit of a slog but Season 4 is where it truly becomes great and doesn't really let up. I hope you enjoy the show.

Anyone watch the Hulu show The Bear?

It's about an award winning chef taking over his dead brother's sandwich shop. The premise sounds basic but it's a really entertaining show and well acted. The characters are great. I definitely recommend this show. All episodes of seasons 1 and 2 are up.

So far with Agents of Shield, I like the show even though I have disliked where they have taken some of the characters and their relationship with each other. I hope they have some victories. Most of the writing so far has been gloomy and defeating to the characters.

I really liked season 2. Imo it started to pick up... and it is a bit gloomy at times.  I think some of the relationships are odd ... a bit forced. But you never know if they are real or not...  or if someone is using someone or spying / juicing for information

Let's see, lately I've started several shows but haven't completely caught up:

But there's other shows out or coming out I need to work on:

Of the new shows, I'd say Silo is the most intriguing so far. Based on a book or books apparently.

Finished the Twisted Metal show and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Season 1 is only 10 episodes but there didn't seem to be much filler. I do recommend it if anyone wants something to jump into but don't want to watch multiple seasons.

This peaked my interest, but life right now is not allowing for a lot of extra time.  The months of July and August were both spent on a family event thing and health issues. If our subscription is still active, I might check this out when things calm.

@BLUEVOODU in the early comics Nick Fury was always the leader, or head, of shield. There was no Coulson. Coulson appeared in the MCU movies and quickly became a fan favorite. Disney seizing the opportunity to cash-in created a vehicle to use the character, wha-la "Agents of Shield" headed by Coulson, tv series was born. There were comics that came out after the series started airing that featured Coulson.

It doesn't bother me that it is not canon. I have enjoyed the Coulson character. It is too bad that they did not have cameos of Marvel heroes overlapping in the episodes and storyline. And the movies should have had more of an impact as I was trying to figure out which movie was going on at the time of the episodes I was watching.
I was disappointed in not seeing more mutants in the series. Maybe it was a matter of special effects and money?
It is a dark gloomy intense drama from start to finish. It makes a lot of sense to link the whole season together into one storyline. It creates a good continuity throughout the season as opposed to the traditional problem solved in a 45min episode. It's sort-of reminiscent of the old serials from way back.

I have enjoyed watching this. I have a couple of more episodes in the 5th season. They intended to end the series here at this point. Somehow, it was, out of the blue, renewed and a couple of more short seasons were produced. I am hesitant in my expectations of the last two seasons.
But I will watch them with one eye closed.  ;)

Semi-binged Castlevania:Nocturne on Netflix. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's another decent adaption of the video games. Neither of the Castlevania shows follow the games exactly but I think what they came up with works. I do recommend it.

We haven't had Netflix for a little while now - for about the last year.  I think I'm going to have to cancel one service, start up another... and rotate them out. This is ridiculous but the cost of services are even more  ridiculous at this time.

I want to check out Castlvania.  It looks interesting...

My Daughter and I have finished watching the Agents of Shield series. I will say about the last two seasons, they did not drop the ball. Same quality and good ending to the series. Seasons 6 and 7 was just too short.

I am presently watching through the Star Trek series Enterprise. When this series was first released on TV I totally rejected it. Could not find it useful for viewing as part of the franchise. I am first a fan of the original Star Trek. I spent time adjusting my antenna, as a youth, trying to tune it in on our old Black & White TV set, in those days. Was totally thrilled with STNG when it came along. Deep Space 9 I sort-of watched it sometimes. Star Trek Voyager left me frustrated, how can these people be on their way home to the alpha area of the galaxy and still run into the same aliens? Why were there so many episodes with a few to one in a shuttle far away from the ship? Aren't they trying to make their home? Everyone seems hostile so why are they away from the ship? There was a lot about that series that I felt that they dropped the ball. There was so much potential! Aggh!!!
I said all this because I really do appreciate the Enterprise series now. I am really enjoying my romp through each episode. And I find Deep Space 9 more appealing. Even though both of those series had endings that I felt were lame. Not sure if it is because I am older or what. I am in the first season of Enterprise right now, blu-ray. I wish they hadn't dated it with the intro theme song.

I think it's time to update the title of this thread to Binge-Watching shows - 2024 Edition  ;D .

Just finished Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Really enjoyed it. It follows two storylines and the one that involves the younger adults can be a bit sloggish to get through but the finale and the other storyline completely made the watch worth it.

If you enjoy the latest Godzilla/King Kong movies and subscribe to Apple TV+, I highly recommend it.

Quote from: mastermario on February 22, 2023, 08:43:02 PMLet's see...lately (last 6 months or so) I've watched:

  • Wednesday
  • Jack Ryan
  • Jack Reacher
  • Tulsa King
  • Mayor of Kingstown
  • Upload
  • Yellowstone/1883/1923
  • Andor/Obi-Wan
  • She-Hulk
  • Better Call Saul
  • Severence
  • Peripheral
  • Welcome to Wrexham

I guess after putting it in writing, maybe I watch too much TV.

Updates -

Reacher Season 3 is good except they have a British actress attempting a Boston accent (why?) and it's so bad it's distracting.

Need to watch Severance season 2.

Every season of Tulsa King is great.

Welcome to Wrexham is still good.

Any Star Wars show since this last post sucked.

Cobra Kai final season was solid as well.
