Obi-Wan just started on Disney+ last Friday.  I was SUPER pumped for this this series.  (still am super pumped!)  The quality of the show really appears movie-like.  Many times you can tell it's a series.  You can see this in the outfits, acting quality...etc.   Obi-Wan is of pretty high quality all around... with the exception of 1 overacting person, but I'll address that in future posts.  I want to see where they are taking the mentioned character.

The 1st 2 episodes are out.  Have you seen them? What are you thoughts?  Post it up!

Grindspine

Great!

;D

Also, if you have not, at very least, watched the last 4 episodes of The Clone Wars (Season 7, Episodes 9, 10, 11, and 12) after watching Revenge of the Sith, DO IT!  Those episodes shed so much more light on Order 66.

Grindspine

Can we see more of this though?

I wasn't even considering watching the Obi Wan series, but after your comments I decided to give it a chance. The recap on the first episode basically set the stage for the series. I asked myself while watching that if I really wanted to see this story? And I am asking that from the perspective of not even considering what happened in between the two events from the two different movies. I have now watched both episodes and it is well done with a better quality production than other Star wars series Disney has churned out recently. I am hooked at this point even though I question some things and wince at some of the aspects of the Obi character they are portraying. Surely there is only one direction that they can go unless they are about to rewrite some of the Star Wars history.

@Grindspine  --> Good advice, I think we will do that soon.  We were watching the seasons at one point.  We made it to 3 I believe, but other stuff took over.  Clone Wars need a topic.

@retro junkie --> pretty good, eh?    I really thought this series is well done... SO FAR.  As I mentioned, I don't like the over acting of 1 of the characters.  But we will see how that pans out.

@BLUEVOODU there are some parts of the plot that I cannot get into and it seems to spoil it to a certain extent for me.

Spoiler: ShowHide
They keep trying to use that one Jedi and Darth Vader as a threat to Obi wan. Knowing that Obi Wan is going to be there for Luke just doesn't help to create the suspense.

Seriously, The Clone Wars only gets better.  I still cringe a bit at the movie and the first season.  The story really starts getting deep with the Mandalore story arc (Obi-wan's almost lost love story) and the backstory on some of the clones; Capt. Rex, Fives, Heavy, and Echo in particular.

CreepinDeth

Caught up on the first 3 episodes. So far enjoying it. The first 2 episodes had a bit of plot armor on some of the characters. Not a big fan of plot armor but it kept the pace going.

As for Episode 3 -
Spoiler: ShowHide
This is Vader as how we're supposed to see him. He's supposed to be the baddest MFer in the empire but you rarely saw it in the original trilogy. It was mostly just reputation. We finally get to see Vader in his prime and I hope it continues.

For some awkward reason this sort of sums up many of the Disney + series or works for me.

I'm with @CreepinDeth, after the epic heel turn in Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith we really didn't get to see Vader be Vader... I dig it and I hope it continues

That video is pure art.  I miss the days when the internet was more about stuff that happens when one star wars fan has vision, and empty apartment, and minimal video editing skills.

10/10 will watch it on repeat play.

BLUEVOODU

I agree with @CreepinDeth as well... good stuff.  I really dug the series.  I need more.  I need this do be as many seasons as the CLone Wars and to be awesome.  This is a need... yes... a need.

@retro junkie -  Seriously.... laughed the entire time.  That's hilarious.  You are 100% right @Grindspine , I really miss the "old" way things were done...  that's just pure awesome.

CreepinDeth

Finally watched the last episode today. Was not in a rush to watch it I guess.

The final episode was good but I think one of the problems I have with prequel stuff is that when you already know the fates of characters (in this case, almost all of them) you automatically lose tension in certain scenes. The story just wasn't that great to compensate for that.

I give this series a 6/10.

Everybody knows luke, leia, and obi wan are going to be ok in the end so how much tension can you possibly generate? I think this is why a lot of the disney people are saying they're giving up revisiting old characters...

I think there's a formula (not sure if Disney has found it yet) where you can tell an exciting story without the hero's death being part of the action. Obi Wan did ok, but there were times where not knowing if some of the characters made it to tomorrow would have made the scene so much better.

I think if they just dumped the entirety of the series out at once (a la netflix) the writers wouldn't have to fit things into neat little 40 minute boxes and have some of the episodes rely on situations where knowing the future of the character takes away from the overall action. OR stick with episode / week but write a story that doesn't utilize the peril of the protagonist as the main focus.

People love picking these stories apart and I get it, wherever most people started with Star Wars was the pinnacle for them and everything outside of their beloved trilogy / entry point just can't live up. Personally, I consume it all and love it all. Some are far superior to others. For me, its nice to see something outside the formula of David vs Goliath, and BIG World Ending base, ship, fleet, vs small band of hopefuls and the fleeting task of taking it down. But really, i love it all, outside of those stupid droids cartoons, ewok movies, and the christmas special so bad you have to really search it out.

BLUEVOODU

yeah @targetrasp  I see that too.  The only problem with that now... is that EVERYONE poo poo's on EVERYTHING.  It's almost as if the majority are negative about anything.. and it's not done right.   Part of the problem today is that everyone has tapped in a formula of some sort... and many things are not done outside that formula.   Shoes, Cars, and many other products and industries no longer take a chance and follow a formula.  I can't blame others for doing this ... as it's a risk to stray from a formula.

Grindspine

I really liked what they did with the Obi Wan story.

From watching Star Wars: Rebels, I saw scenes where he is still on Tattooine years later. It was a fresh part of the story seeing him in the uncertainty of his place in everything, then having to face his past. I also thought the casting was exceptionally good.

Knowing the end of a story does not always bother me. Afterall, Halo: Reach is one of those games where you know Reach will fall, but it was still great to play the story through to that fall.

My motto for the last 5-6 years has been "any Star Wars is better than no Star Wars" given that we went a long time between ROTJ and TPM and between ROTS and TFA. That said, there have been some very below average series and movies but I'd still rather have them then nothing.

Obi-Wan as a series was overall pretty average but like most recent Star Wars shows, starts slow but finishes strong. The Reva sub-plot was fine but took too long to pay off. I agree with @CreepinDeth that there's a big issue with the fates of the characters being known, but they did that last episode extremely well so I think it was worth it.

Since we know Obi-Wan is invincible between now and ANH, bring in some other characters (maybe Maul?) and just make him a badass for a couple more seasons.

Watch Star Wars: Rebels, season 3, episode 20 "Twin Suns"

You'll get to see Maul and Obi Wan.
