The different dimensions, worlds, universes, are converging, crossing over. Why? Who is behind this thing? Why is this happening? And this is the basic concept behind the storyline for this game. The characters are being pulled from their worlds into this certain realm. In case it hasn't dawned on you this IS a fan based game for anyone wanting to see characters from Bandai, Sega, and CAPCOM together in one game. If you are expecting to use the characters the way you use them in their respective games, you will not be satisfied. And find this disappointing. Seemingly a visual novel in between fights that drives the story. (No roaming or exploring.) And the story  gives you a reason for the confrontations. Strategy RPG elements are used in the battles, the only time you can move, mixed with fighting game influences, but you are limited in your character control.  Found no purchasing armor, supplies, to buildup the fighters other than just leveling up after a battle. Any potions, or food, are only obtained after a successful battle. Each battle is mission based, kill all enemies, get the boss guy, etc. Story, battle, story, battle, story, battle, is the way the game plays, and the battles might be too repetitive for some. Odd concoction of gaming elements that seem to work together. It might not be for everyone. The strategy elements during the battles is what has hooked me. The fights consist of button mashing, with special moves initiated by the directional button. You are sometimes given a character you can call in CAPCOM style to help in a fight. And when you have several pairs of characters on the board to use in a fight, if you are together, you can call on them to help. Graphics and animation is smooth and fun to watch, awesome. I purchased this game  locally in a used media store for $8. And I have liked it so much I purchased the second one in the series.
I find it a hard game to recommend.

Liked it but find it a hard game to recommend?

I find it hard to recommend because I don't think it is a game that would appeal to most people. If you like strategy games. then yes, maybe. But I think it is because I have a hard time categorizing the gameplay. I'm not exactly big on strategy games myself, but I do find this game fun and enjoyable to play. I feel that it is one of those Japanese games that finally made it over here. And I think it feels Japanese like.

This is the first game in a long time that I run my battery down playing in each gaming session.  ;D

Holy crap I can't get into this game. It seems like it be something I'd be all about, and parts of my really want it to be something I'd enjoy, but for some reason I can't.

What is it about the game that you are finding, not sure what words I am looking for, maybe, pushing you away?

The combat. I can't seem to figure it out. It looks to be more than button mashing BUT that's as far as I get, just hitting a bunch of buttons.

If you have two or more pairs of fighters, first, get them together on the board. That way you can call on them to help. There are some moves to use shown on the lower screen. When you are attacking, use that time to make sure your life bar is full before attacking. Also you can equip items you picked up from battles at this time.

It is button mashing, mainly with only one button, with little or no control of your characters. Quickly spot on the bottom screen the move you want to include in your attack or counterattack session.

You can either clear the screen of enemies or go for the boss like character. Taking out the boss character clears the chapter regardless of how many stooges are left.

You will learn to plan as you enter a battle.
