Outside the obvious - we need more activity and members, what are your thoughts?  Likes/dislikes?

Is everything performing well so far?  Ie fast, responsive ... etc?

I will continue to make topics like this every once in awhile until the board is fully running.   I'm also testing the announce feature with the post.

The posts and topics will become more as we gain more members and more older members return. If you see something at other places you would like here (categories, topics, boards)... post it up as a suggestion.  Don't see topics you want?  Create them and help bring more conversations to the board.  We definitely could use help in this area... and replying to topics.

Bottom line, I'm open to all suggestions on the forums.  This is a fun "project" and I hope it is fun for you all as well.

Again, thank you for joining!

Only thing that bugs me is that when you have new posts in a category it has the blue icon instead of black right?  After I check all the stuff in that category it sometimes stays blue.  >___>

That's just a nit picky thing though xD  Everything else is good as far as I can see.

I have noticed this as well.  If you wait 60 seconds... does it change?   I'm wondering if that's a caching thing.

I also noticed If I post somewhere... the blue icon is there as a new post.. even though I posted.   If I read it .. it goes away.

Ok so I just tested it a couple times, and that seems to be what triggers it.  Wtf lol.  Is there a setting somewhere or a way to redirect to your post you just made instead of back to the board index?  If not I'll just deal.  XD

Yes - There is an option in your profile --> Look and Layout.

I can set this by default... but In the past, not everyone wanted it.   I personally don't really care either way - if it's on, turn off... or vice versa.  But you can change that in your profile!

Kinikko

There we go.  Found it.  :3  As long as I have the choice to turn it on for myself that's fine. XD

Awesome.  Glad that helps  :)

Topic is still rolling - feel free to post up.

Everyone good with everything?

Questions, comments, concerns? Lol

IDK, I think the guitar playing dog that only knows three cords is starting to get on my nerves...

Seriously though, things are pretty nice

Is this trying to be a family friendly board like EGA? Not that I mind but I feel other forums thrive a little more when there's less restriction on cursing and whatnot. PG13 type stuff though, not overboard nastiness.

Yeah I've been kinda wondering this too.  What are like the "rules" or whatnot, not sure how I want to word this question.  lol

Take thought when you consider this as a less family friendly board that I inwardly have the maturity of a thirteen year old even though I am 63 outwardly.  :)

Yeah. At some point this has to be addressed. Pg13 sounds good. But here's the thing... respectful Amd knowledgeable ... courteous posts.

Look ... sites like quora, stack exchange, Atari age and a whole host of other sites didn't become big by people acting like a bunch of disrespectful trolls and baiters.  This is coming from someone who finds the hitman's body guard a hilarious movie.

I disagree on this point a bit. I've seen posts and content ... and flames take forums apart or descend into disrepair.  Understand what's invited on once you start heavily going down that path.

I cannot state this is right and wrong and set every stupid scenario.  I hate micromanagement with a passion.

Any of that make sense? Lol

Lol it was a reference. Guess not a good one. Changed to trolls and baiters.  More correct I suppose. Either way, synonymous.

No bullying. Respect people and their opinions.  Etc etc. I don't want sexual stuff around.

Does this make sense?

BLUEVOODU

I guess the other way to put it is this:

Personally, I want a cool place to go that people are friendly and are respectful.  I get not everyone gets along all the time, but agree to disagree... and a place I can post and do stuff at work on lunch or whatever without worrying who's looking or what the filters are tracking.  That's the selfish part there.  But a place I like to share with anyone that would like to join and participate. And a place that people love to go to and enjoy.  Build memories.

Idk. Maybe that's a pipe dream.

I was kidding, I knew what you meant.

Allowing graphic language and content is a slippery slope. Explicit language tends to undermine the intelligence of a conversation. Cussing like a factory worker makes one seem about as smart as a factory worker. Granted, factory workers' IQs could range from barely breathing to rocket scientist but there's an assumed level of intelligence inherent to that job.

While the use of profanity can, at times, more accurately convey feeling and meaning behind a communication it's overuse can diminish the authority behind that communication.

I spent my highschool and college years on a loading dock, in a locker room, and with a fraternity -- my environment was flooded with sex and profanity. Now that I have kids and am in a more professional setting at work, I find restraint difficult but necessary. Most times when I do succumb to old habits, I just sound foolish.

I still listen to explicit music, play GTA, and watch stuff like South Park so I find no offense in profanity or sexual situations. I'll be fine with however we decide to go. I do suggest temperance. While there seems to be a fair bit of diversity in our group; maturity and intelligence is a common thread. In growing our user base, I feel like that's what we'd want to attract.

BLUEVOODU

lol I know you are. I've known you long time.

Yeah. I worked in IT in an automotive factory.   And still hear a lot.  It doesn't bother me.  In many cases it sounds dumb but your point on sometimes it just conveys the message - yes lol. I still listen to metal lol.  I like the hitman's body guard and tons of different movies.

CreepinDeth

That's why I mentioned PG13 type language and definitely not directed towards people. I'm in the camp that people can have intelligent conversations and still use curse words to convey the message well. But if people start getting nasty just for nastiness sake, then it would be time to crack down.

Video games range from E for Everyone to Mature so there might be some topics that will be difficult to discuss without side stepping some of the material. It would sound like people are walking on egg shells.

However, like I mentioned in the retro thread, this is your board BV. I'll be fine with whatever the general rules are.  We'll make it work. :)
